Tony Scherman

Born on August 13, 1950, in Toronto, Ontario, and passed on February 28, 2023, in Toronto, Antony Scherman was a Canadian painter known for his use of encaustic and portraiture. Growing up in Europe, Scherman first attended Byam Shaw School of Art, then graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1974. He was the youngest artist in the controversial exhibition called "The Human Clay," which toured galleries in England, Wales, Scotland and Belgium. Scherman’s work is represented in 30 public collections across Canada and internationally. Returning to Toronto in 1976, Scherman became a sessional instructor at the University of Guelph Department of Fine Art and an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture.
