William Kurelek

Born on March 3, 1927 near Whitford, Alberta, and passed on November 3, 1977, in Toronto, Ontario, William Kurelek was a Canadian artist and writer. From a Ukrainian immigrant family, Kurelek enrolled in the Arts General Course at the University of Manitoba in 1949. Also studying at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto (1949) and at the Instituto Allende in Mexico, he moved to England in his mid-twenties in 1952. First exhibiting at the Isaac's Gallery from March 26 to April 7, 1960, his show had 20 paintings. Continuing to primarily exhibit at Isaac's Gallery, Kurelek also had works in La Galerie Agnès Lefort in Montreal, Mira Godard Gallery in Toronto, and many more across the country.
